DAWN OVERDUE PRODUCTIONS was founded in 2013 by Brandon Smalls and Robert Tarushka rather out of necessity. With few avenues for emerging artists, it occurred to them that they may want to create opportunities for themselves and colleagues in similar circumstances. Dawn Overdue arose from conversations about difficulty living and working in New York City along with ideas for projects requiring a certain level of artistic control. After many talks, Happy Birthday Tommy was cast, shot, and edited with lightning turnaround.
In summation, Dawn Overdue is a company that has been in wait out of reach. Perhaps a bit late but certainly a long time coming, we are able and willing to make up for lost time.
A native of LaGrange, Georgia, Brandon studied theatre at Davidson College in North Carolina after discovering a love for acting as a pre-med student. Began writing at the age of 10, was first published as a poet at 13, and finished high school at 16. Brandon has since produced three full novel-length manuscripts and written a number of plays.
Born, bred, and educated in the New Hampshire wilderness, Robert has acted in everything from Euripides to movement-based devised pieces. After co-authoring a touring children’s theatre piece along with other plays and teaching writing at various grade levels, Robert hopes to marry a newfound passion for design with his long standing love of writing.
